Exterior doors, fitted right.

A door that sticks, leaks air or has soft wood at the bottom of the frame does not always need replacing. We look at the door, the frame and the threshold, then recommend the fix that actually solves it.

What we do

Exterior doors

  • Entry door replacement
  • Storm doors
  • French and patio doors
  • Rotted jamb, brick mold and threshold repair
  • Weatherstripping, sweeps and adjustment
  • Enlarging or changing an opening

Repair or replace? An honest answer.

Plenty of door problems are fixable: worn weatherstripping, a missing sweep, loose hinges, or rot confined to the bottom of the jamb. We can cut out and rebuild a rotted section without replacing the whole door.

If the slab is warped or damaged, the frame is rotted further up, or the door simply no longer seals, a new door is the better long-term value. When rot reaches the framing or subfloor under the threshold, we show you before going further.

FAQ

Common questions

Have a different question? Call (757) 585-4366.

My door sticks or leaks air. Does it need to be replaced?

Not always. Adjusting hinges and strike plates, replacing weatherstripping or a door sweep, or fixing a sagging frame can solve a lot. If the slab is warped, the frame is rotted, or the door is simply worn out, replacement is the better value.

Can you repair a rotted door jamb without replacing the whole door?

Often, yes. If the rot is localized at the bottom of the jamb or brick mold, we can cut out the damaged section, rebuild it and seal it. If it runs further up or into the framing and subfloor, we will show you and talk through the options.

Do you install storm doors?

Yes. We install storm doors and have done entry and storm door replacements together so the opening is finished cleanly.

Can you add French doors or a patio door?

Yes. That can be a direct replacement of an existing door, or enlarging an opening, such as converting a window to French doors.
